Just as for so many photographers, making pictures was in the beginning only Paul’s hobby. At that time he didn’t realize that it would take a central place in his life and career.

After four years of studying photography in Roeselare (Belgium), Paul began his career in Bruges where he worked several years in a photo shop. These were the days where Paul developed his commercial skills. Afterwards, Paul decided to try it himself and in 1993 he started his own photography shop where nowadays two people work on a full time basis.

It was only a small step from being a photographer, to teaching how to become one. Paul took the step several years ago, and combined the photo shop and his job as a photographer with his new passion of being a teacher in the photography school of Bruges, where Portrait Photography became his discipline. In 2004 Paul started with the construction of his own new photo studio.

Paul Gheyle was also chairman of the National Association for Professional Photographers in Belgium. One day, Olympus Belgium asked his to try out the E-System and to work with the newly developed E-1.

“It was love at first sight,” tells Paul. “I used to work with a digital camera from another brand. But once I found out about the E-1 and especially the Pro and Top Pro lenses, I was so impressed that I made up my mind and switched to the E-System. I only work with the E-System from that day on.”

Afterwards, Paul became also the E-System trainer of Olympus Belgium.

“Nowadays I use the E-3 body and combine it with about 5 different lenses. My preferred lens is Zuiko Digital ED 35-100mm.”
